FAQs

Visiting a new church can sometimes be confusing. We’ve answered some frequently asked questions to help you feel more comfortable when you come to worship with us here at St. Matthew.

What can I expect when I visit?

St. Matthew is a joy-filled place. We love to come here to worship, share our lives, and be built up in Jesus… And we love to welcome new faces! Expect to be greeted with the joy and love of Jesus! Expect to hear about God and His love, care, and guidance for us in worship and in Bible Study. Expect your children to be welcomed with open arms! Expect your children, during the Bible study hour, to have opportunities to grow in Jesus in kidzplace, a fun filled age appropriate place for learning and experiencing Jesus!

Which worship service is right for me?

Currently, St. Matthew offers two worship services, at 8:30 am and 11:00 am on Sunday mornings. The 8:30 am service is our “traditional worship”, where the singing of praise to our Savior is accompanied by an organ and, at times, by a piano. The 11:00 am worship is our band-led “contemporary worship” where the praise is led by our band. Holy Communion is celebrated on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of the month.

What should I wear?

Come as you are! There is no dress code! It’s just “California Casual!”

What about my children?

We love children here at St. Matthew! Child care during worship is available in the Timothy Room. There is also a Cry Room at the back of the sanctuary with glass windows looking into the sanctuary and speakers so you can hear and join in with the worship.  During the Bible Study Hour kidzplace is offered for nursery-6th grade, while both Jr. High and Sr. High have individual studies.

Should I give an offering?

This is an opportunity in our worship service to joyfully give back to God out of what He has first given to us. We do not expect visitors to participate unless they are moved to express thankfulness to God for what He has done. We would appreciate it if, during the offering, you would fill out our visitor sheets which are passed down each row during this time, to give us an opportunity to know you worshipped with us.

Will I be able to follow along with the service?

Yes, absolutely!  The entire service is printed out in each bulletin as well as being shown on our dual screens so that you can participate in the worship experience.

What is communion all about? And can I participate?

Holy Communion is a gift of God to His people. It is the true body and blood of Jesus, the Savior, mysteriously present in the bread and wine, giving and sealing to us the forgiveness of sins, life with Jesus. Participation in Holy Communion has historically been reserved for those who have been baptized, have been taught the Biblical teachings concerning Holy Communion, and share a common understanding of its meaning. If these things are true for you, please join us in receiving this gift of God. Questions? Call/talk to Pastor Brad. He would be happy to speak with you!
